Cyclone is forecast to intensify within the next 24 hours. “It is likely to move north-northwestward and likely to cross between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram by the morning of the 30th morning. Under the influence of this system, rainfall is likely to occur in the next 2-3 days, fairly widespread moderate rainfall in most of the parts of Tamil Nadu,” a senior IMD official said.
The Puducherry government has announced that all schools and colleges in the union territory will remain closed on November 29 and 30 as heavy rains were forecast under the impact of cyclone brewing over the Bay of Bengal. Home minister A Namassivayam told reporters that all schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal regions would remain shut for two days from Friday in view of the rain. All privately managed schools and government-aided schools would also be closed.
Meanwhile, the Indian Navy has activated a comprehensive disaster response plan as Cyclone intensifies in the Bay of Bengal. The officials also advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea until November 31.

The local administration has stated that the rain is due to the expected storm. While isolated areas like Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam will receive rain, Puducherry and Karaikal and adjoining areas will also receive heavy rainfall. The Delta region and northern interior areas are also expected to witness heavy rainfall on Saturday. . Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Puducherry-Karaikal districts as Cyclone Style continues to intensify and make landfall. Friday, November 29: The lowest pressure in the southwestern Bay of Bengal has been moving northwestward at a speed of 7 km/h during the last 6 hours. As of 05:30 IST, it was near latitude 10.4° N and longitude 82.7° E. It is located about 260 km NE of Trincomalee, 310 km E of Nagapattinam, 360 km E-E of Puducherry and 400 km S of Chennai.
The system is expected to move northwestward over the northern Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast between Karikal and Mahabalipuram and near Puducherry on the morning of November 30.
Rain and crop damage in Tamil Nadu Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu experienced heavy rainfall; Nagapattinam AWS and Velankanni received 6cm of rain, while Thiruthuraipoondi and Vedaranyam received 5cm each.
The severe weather caused extensive damage in the district, with over 800 acres of rice fields inundated. Districts such as Kamashwaram, Virundhamavadi, Pudupalli, Vedrappu, Vanamadevi, Vallapallam, Kallimedu, Eeravayal and Chemboadi were the worst affected, leaving local farmers vulnerable.
Fortunately, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) cooperated with the rescue operation. On Thursday, despite poor weather conditions, they successfully rescued six fishermen and four labourers from the Chemplast jetty in Cuddalore, 2km off the coast.
